  • TOPIC: Helping federations maximise their digital assets
    DATE: February 2017
    VENUE: The Olympic Museum, Lausaunne

    On Wednesday 8th February 2017, SportsPro hosted SPTalks at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland.
    Looking at how sports federations could make use of their digital space, we had several industry professionals providing knowledge on best practice in the sector and offering their insights into how to stay ahead of the game in the rapidly evolving digital landscape. Topics at this event included:

    • Aggregate, distribute and monitor your live feeds across a various range of events in a cost effective way
      Eurovision developed a platform that allows the distribution of feeds across a various range of connectivity (4G, satellite fibre) allowing event organisers to adjust the live coverage and level of broadcast to the event in the most cost relevant way.
    • The Beyond-TV experience: OTT & friends
      deltatre believe there will be a strong acceleration of OTT and live-streaming initiatives, both on the media side and the rights-owners side (i.e. federations, leagues, clubs, players). Mostly, SVoD (subscription video on demand) focuses on frictionless, multi-platform, beyond-TV experiences.
      deltatre have recently launched the global ATP platform, TennisTV, and went through the first live tournaments in Dubai and Chennai successfully.
    • Maximising the Value of Sports Video Content
      The relationship between sports and online video has not always been an easy one, but times are changing and OTT sports content can enable federations to capitalise on the potential of their assets. 
      Brightcove discussed how sports federations can:
      - Be quick to market and publish rapidly to all platforms
      - Get the most from their online video 
      - Measure and optimise viewer engagement


  • TOPIC: Broadcast technology & the growth of OTT
    DATE: March 2016
    VENUE: Pinsent Masons LLP

    On Wednesday 9th March, SportsPro hosted SP Talks at international law firm Pinsent Masons LLP.

    The focus of this exclusive invite-only masterclass was broadcast technology and the growth of OTT.
    Avid, Brightcove and deltatre shared their expertise and insights with the following presentations:

    • Delivering high quality sports content to a global fanbase         
      Brightcove presented the challenges associated with delivering high quality live and on-demand content to increasingly diverse and dispersed audiences, wherever they are and on whatever device they need. Brightcove also looked at how to address the ever increasing range of devices, screens and platforms. 
    • OTT – Meet your sports audience of tomorrow               
      deltatre explained how OTT can be used to target new audience segments. Whether you had your own B2C strategy focused on delivering content direct to audiences, or you were supporting your rights holders in delivering the best digital experience to theirs and ultimately your audience; deltatre looked at practical ways to do this most effectively.              
    • Changing the game – The future of technology 
      Avid discussed how the technology of tomorrow will be changing the game for content owners and how this enabled the sports storyteller to connect audiences for deeper levels of engagement across distributed platforms.


  • TOPIC: Innovations in Digital Media
    DATE: November 2015
    VENUE: The Olympic Museum, Lausanne

    For the first time, SP Talks went outside of the UK and took place at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland, on Thursday 19th November. The focus at this edition was creating, delivering and monetizing digital sports content.

    Presentations included:

    • Which OTT Strategy to Adopt for Sport Federations and Leagues? (Presented by deltatre)
    • The three opportunities for niche sports to deliver profitable video (Presented by StreamAMG)
    • Driving commercial growth from digital media (presented by Two Circles)


  • TOPIC: Digital Media For Rights Holders
    DATE: June 2015
    VENUE: Kia Oval, London

    The first SP Talks event took place at the Kia Oval in London, home of Surrey Country Cricket Club, on 19th June 2015. This bespoke class focused in on digital media for rights holders, incorporating the creation and monetisation of digital platforms.

    Presentations included:

    • Harnessing data to create compelling fan experiences (Presented by Omnigon)
    • How does digital impact the way we enjoy sport? Now and in the future (Presented by Seven League)
    • Driving commercial growth from digital media (Presented by Two Circles)

    Following the presentations, attendees took part in core-focus discussions. Each presenter had a dedicated 20 minute time slot with each group of attendees to delve deeper into how they have tackled certain industry challenges, discuss best practice and answer any questions.


  • TOPIC: Innovations in Digital Broadcasting
    DATE: September 2015
    VENUE: Pinsent Masons LLP, London

    The September edition of SP Talks took place on Wednesday 23rd September at international law firm Pinsent Masons LLP, with the focus on innovations in digital broadcasting. 

    Presentations included:

    • From Pitch to Screen: Building a World-class Digital Experience for Sports Fans (Presented by Limelight)
    • The Dark Side of TV Everywhere: Illegal Live Streaming over the Internet (Presented by Viaccess-Orca)
    • Special one-to-one interview with David Murray, formerly Head of Sports Rights at the BBC (Interviewed by Pinsent Masons)
